Dear Working Group Members,
On 2 June 2017, in the context of the EU-China Summit in Brussels, Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete and Mr Nur Bekri, Administrator of the National Energy Administration signed the 2017-2018 Work Plan to implement the EU-China Roadmap on Energy Cooperation, having the objective of sharing best practices with regard to energy regulation, demand and supply analysis, energy crisis, grid design and the integration of renewable energy into the electricity grid. In this context, 2018 will also see the start of the EU–China energy cooperation platform (ECECP), an EU funded project aimed at strengthening the EU–China business cooperation in the energy sector.
How do these mechanisms of cooperation set up in the context of the EU-China Energy Dialogue function? What role can companies play? Will the European companies active in the energy sector in China benefit from these mechanisms? These and other issues will be discussed at the next WG meeting on 14 March 2018, h 9:30 – 11:30, with Mr Ignacio Asenjo, Second Secretary at the Delegation of the EU in China.
In addition, the Energy Working Group is calling for candidates for the 2018-2019 chair eection. This year, the Energy Working Group is going to elect one National Chair and three National Vice Chairs:
- one Working Group Chair based in Beijing or Shanghai to serve as the National Chair;
- one Vice Chair based in Beijing or Shanghai to serve as the National Vice Chair and Local Chair (a Local Chair can only be based in the city where there is no National Chair);
- two other National Vice Chairs based in Beijing and Shanghai respectively.
About Roles and Responsibility
Chair and Vice Chairs play a crucial role in driving the working group activities, which include:
1. leading the working group event programming and position paper, which will also be discussed at the meeting on 14 March, h 9:30 – 11:30;
2. Providing input on laws and regulations relevant to the energy sector, and;
3. Communicating key messages to Chinese and European stakeholders on behalf of European chamber energy community.

Who Should Apply?
Representatives of the European energy industry in China are encouraged to apply. Ideally, the Chair and Vice Chairs should come from the corporate sector.Representatives from the consulting industry or NGOs will also be considered.
Should you be interested in putting your name forward for election or nominate a candidate, please send a CV and a motivation letter in English, stating which position (National Chair or National Vice Chair) you intend to run for, why you wish to be elected as National Chair or National Vice Chair and a set of goals you have for the Energy Working Group to Ms. Tianyi Zhang at intern002@europeanchamber.com.cn in Beijing or Mr. Antonio Salvador at asalvador@europeanchamber.com.cn in Shanghai by Friday, 2 March 2018 COB.
In accordance with the European Chamber internal guidelines, the voting for the election (one vote per company) must be conducted in person at the working group meeting after each candidate has had the opportunity to give a short speech on why they would like to run. The duration of the term for both the National Chair and the National Vice Chair is one year. All elected chairpersons must sign the Code of conduct enclosed in the attachment upon taking the appointment offer.
As always, we encourage as many of our members as possible to attend to have their say in the leadership and representation of the Environment Working Group in the year ahead.
