In 2017 the State Council released the national Next Generation AI Development Plan that set the target of China being the dominant global player in artificial intelligence by 2030. While the existence of a top level plan is no guarantor of success, State Council papers have the tradition of rapidly mobilizing both local government and private companies to action.
The European Chamber is delighted to welcome Bruce Fu, senior director and co-lead of APCO’s global tech practice and Christopher Thomas, managing partner of McKinsey’s global digital strategy practice to explain why China is strongly positioned to become a global leader in the AI industry.
Bruce will focus on the policy initiatives that will drive the development of AI in China from the top down; including the AI Development Plan and its ties to the broader policy priorities of China. He will discuss the issues that have the potential to impact upon the industry's continued development.
Chris will focus primarily on the attributes of China’s private tech companies, including; the availability of venture capital funding, the unparalleled amount of data at their disposal, and the constant innovation and experimentation that is already taking place in the world’s largest internet market.
During this seminar speakers will further address the major misconceptions that exist about China’s capability to develop cutting edge technology and the potential business opportunities that may be afforded to foreign companies operating in China as a result.
