During the launch event, Nation-wide President of EUCCC Mr. Mats Harborn, together with Chairman of EUCCC Southwest Chapter Mr. Paul Sives along with other panelists, will reveal and interpret the core results drawn from the Business Confidence Survey 2018.

This year’s Business Confidence Survey highlights an emerging contradiction: China’s increasingly sophisticated economy stands in stark contrast to its highly burdensome regulatory environment.
今年的《商业信心调查》主要关注中国日渐显露的矛盾：愈发复杂的经济形势与发展程度不匹配的监管环境之间形成了鲜明对比。
The growing appetite of China’s rising middle-class for high quality goods and services contributed to more European companies reporting positive financial results, while competition from Chinese firms—a majority of which were rated as equally or more innovative than EU companies for the first time—drove market efficiency. However, the regulatory environment has failed to keep pace, leaving many European enterprises facing the same challenges that have burdened them for years.
中国中产阶级对于高品质商品和服务需求的快速增长对欧洲公司的财务业绩产生了非常积极的影响。与此同时，大部分的欧洲公司也首次表示中国企业的创新竞争力已追赶上甚至超越欧洲公司，很大程度上加快了市场效率。但是中国的监管环境面对快速变化的市场并没有相应地跟上步伐，使得许多欧洲企业仍然面临多年来一直存在的挑战。
While China’s state-led industrial policies, such as China Manufacturing 2025, have resulted in some opportunities for European firms, many are still barred from participation. All foreign businesses are affected by these issues, but SMEs are particularly exposed and have reported fewer opportunities and worse outcomes than their larger counterparts across the board. Overall, the glass is half full for the outlook on future business, with a majority of respondents still recognizing China as a top three destination for present and future investment. However, the glass is clearly half-empty as far as ease of doing business is concerned, with half of European enterprises expecting the regulatory environment to worsen over the next five years.

Speakers
Mr. Mats Harborn
Mr Mats Harborn is President of Scania China.
From May 2017 to May 2019 Mats Harborn was the President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China. He had served on the Chamber's Executive Committee since 2013, as Vice President and as States' Representative.
Mr. Harborn has been actively involved in Sino-European trade and business relations. In 2005, he was appointed as the Chairman of Swedish Chamber of Commerce in China, a position he held for 8 years. He has been the Chairman China Commercial Vehicles Board of ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers' Association) since 2010.
Mr. Harborn has a proven record of successful introductions of products and companies into China over years. He is now the Executive Director of Scania China Strategic Office, responsible for setting strategies and paving the way for high end CV sales. He joined the company as the Managing Director of Scania China Representative office as well as Scania Sales (China) Co., Ltd in 2004 and held that position until 2010. From 1997 to 2000, he had been working for Swedish Embassy in Beijing as Commerical Councelor, a key position in Sino-Swedish commercial relations. In June 2000, he became the Marketing and Information Director of Ecolean AB, helping establish Ecolean as a credible business partner in juice and dairy industry and define it as a sustainable packaging solutions provider.
Mr. Harborn received a bachelor degree from Lund University on Oriental Studies and Business Admin (1984), and a training course from The Institute of Leadership (IFL) (2008).
As a multilingual user, Mr. Harborn has a wide ranging knowledge of Chinese culture and society beyond his business and rich expertise in cross-cultural management.
