We are delighted to announce that the next Banking Working Group meeting will take place on Monday, 24th March 2008 at 14:30. This meeting will take place at the Lujiazui Financial Centre which is located just behind the Oriental Pearl Tower (map is attached). We will have a tour of the Lujiazui Financial Centre before the meeting so please arrive on time. Please register your attendance at this meeting as we have to submit list of attendees prior to the meeting by emailing Ms. Derval Usher at dusher@euccc.com.cn by Thursday, 20th March.
At the next meeting, we will discuss the following:
1. Position Paper Recommendations
We have now started our discussions on the Position Paper for 2008. As the Position Paper forms the basis of all our lobbying, members are strongly encouraged to consult widely within their own company in advance so that they can then table such recommendations for discussion at our next meeting. Alternatively, please forward your recommendations to me in advance of the meeting. I am attaching last year's paper - please read it before the next meeting.
2. Working Group Chair Elections
At the next Working Group meeting, we will hold the 2008 Banking Working Group Elections. The Banking Working Chair and Vice Chair play a crucial role in driving the the Working Group which includes drafting the Position Paper, communicating key messages to the Chinese and European Government, and steering the Working Group meetings. The desired characteristics of a Chair and Vice Chair are a senior industry representative with relevant industry expertise and government contacts that has the time and willingness to support the group. Previous participation in the Working Group is also highly valued (a general job description is attached).
Although the 2007 Chair has graciously expressed his willingness to continue in the role, he along with the Chamber Secretariat encourage any other member that may be interested to also put forth his/her candidature. Anyone who is possibly interested in running for the position of Chair or Vice Chair is therefore kindly requested to inform the Chamber, dusher@euccc.com.cn, by 20th March.
3. Private Equity and M&A Sub-Group
The European Chamber has launched a new working group sub-group on Private Equity and Mergers & Acquisitions in Beijing. We would like to know if there is interest for this group to operate in Shanghai too.
This group has the intention to become a central venue for experience sharing and networking between PE and M&A professionals in China from Europe or working within a firm with investors or ties from Europe.
It also aims to become a credible reference point with officials from China and Europe when evaluating issues related to Private Equity and Mergers&Acquisitions, and will eventually contribute to the Position Paper. This group will be mainly aimed at senior management of PE funds, finance houses and advisors. If you are interested in having a meeting on these topics in Shanghai, please email to me at dusher@euccc.com.cn
