Since 2017, with the funding from the European Commission, the European Chamber has been participating in the Horizon 2020 Project – EU-China Innovation Platform on Sustainable Urbanisation (UEC) as a consortium partner together with other 11 institutions from both Europe and China. This project aims at finding opportunities, promoting innovation, sharing and improving the design, services and technologies of cities to make them more functional, effective, livable and people-oriented for inhabitants to live in through cooperation with other cities, relevant industries, research institutions and decision-making organs. The project will promote the formulation and practice of the strategies for China-EU cooperation in sustainable urbanisation, establish a plan for China-EU cooperation projects and enhance partnership by creating virtual or real meeting environment.
To further facilitate the EU-China Urbanisation Partnership,the EU-China Dialogue on Circular Economy and the EU-China Leaders' Statement on Climate Change and Clean Energy, help implement the National Plan on New Type of Urbanisation (2014-2020) and accelerate the pace of city pairing, city-industry integration and industry-industry cooperation between China and Europe, the European Chamber, together with the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design (CAUPD) of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development (MOHURD), and the China Centre for Urban Development (CCUD) of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), will invite key stakeholders, including but not limited to policy makers from both China and Europe, experts from research and academic institutions, representatives from industrial organisations and international corporations, to explore innovative mode of sustainable urbanisation.
