This event is scheduled to start at 09:30am. An earlier promotion included an inaccurate agenda.
Traditionally the focus of the startup community, the topic of blockchain is gaining more traction in the policy community since President Xi Jinping declared earlier this year that blockchain is a technology with “breakthrough applications” and that the development of the industry will be a key part of his drive to establish China as a global center of science and innovation.
The importance in developing blockchain has not emerged as a government priority overnight; blockchain was already referenced twice in the Chinese State Council's 13th five-year economic plan that was released in 2016. Since then, despite a ban on cryptocurrency applications, there has been a surge in investment from China’s internet giants, from startups and from government backed funds in blockchain related ventures.
The European Chamber is delighted to welcome PwC’s emerging technology leader, William Gee, to explain how the applications of blockchain are already changing business operations in China, and elaborate on why the majority of PwC’s clients around the world believe that in 3-5 years China will become the global leader in developing blockchain.
William will be joined with Z.T. Luan, Director of Quantitative Trading of FORTUNA (the first Blockchain platform for global OTC Derivative Market), who will share the story of how companies like FORTUNA are harnessing the power of blockchain to disrupt the financial sector.
