Pharma Working Group Meeting
20th March, 2-4pm
Beijing and Shanghai
Dear Pharma Working Group Member,
Please note this email contains several key updates for the Pharma Working Group that include Working Group Elections, Change in Business Managers, and an invitation to the next Working Group Meeting.
We are pleased to invite you to the next Pharma Working Group Meeting that will take place on Thursday, 20th March at the European Chamber in Beijing and in Shanghai from 2-4pm.
At this meeting we will have a presentation on the Legal Business Scope for Pharmaceutical Companies in China. This presentation will be given by Douglas Clark (TBC) of Lovels from Shanghai. In addtion we will also hold 2008 Pharma Working Group Elections and discuss possible recommendations for the 2008 Position Paper.
As you may know, the Pharma Working Chair and Vice Chairs play a crucial role in driving the the Working Group which includes the drafting of the Position Paper, communicating key messages to the Chinese and European Government, and steering the Working Group meetings. The desired characteristics of a Chair and Vice Chair are a senior industry representative with relevant industry expertise and government contacts that has the time and willingness to support the group. Previous participation in the Working Group is also highly valued (a general job description is attached).
Although the 2007 Chair and Vice Chairs have all graciously expressed their willingness to continue in their respective roles, they along with the Chamber Secretariat encourage any other member that may be interested to also put forth his/her candidature. Anyone who is possibly interested in running for the position of Chair or Vice Chair is therefore kindly requested to inform the Chamber, tbrooks@euccc.com.cn, by March 16th.
In addition, we will also begin our discussions on the Position Paper for 2008. As the Position Paper forms the basis of all our lobbying, members are strongly encouraged to consult widely within their own company in advance so that they can then table such recommendations for discussion at this meeting. Attached for your reference is the Pharma WG Position Paper.
Proposed Agenda
1. WG Elections
2. Presentation on Legal Scope for Pharma Companies
2. Roundtable Discussion on Current Pharma Developments
3. Position Paper Discussion and Identification of Possible Leads and Recommendations
Please confirm your participation at this meeting by registering with Mr. Czeven Kwok in Beijing at cwkwok@euccc.com.cn and Mr. Barber pbarber@euccc.com.cn by March 18th.
Finally, please note that Pedro Lopes's successor as Business Manger for the Pharma Working Group is Mr. Tony Brooks. In the future, Tony Brooks will be the Chamber lead for the Pharma Working. We encourage you to add his email to your address books. Tony Brooks will be based in Shanghai but will make a special trip to Beijing for the March 20th Working Group meeting in order to meet the Beijing Pharma Working Group Members. In Beijing, David Lee, currently the Co-Business Manager for the Healthcare Working Group, will also support the group as necessary from Beijing in place of Adam Dunnett.
For any further future information about the Pharma Working Group or the European Chamber in general please do not hesitate to contact Tony Brooks in Shanghai, tbrooks@euccc.com.cn .
