Roland Berger’s annual E-mobility index (released September) revealed that in the field of New Energy Vehicles (NEV’s) China continues to lead the pack. This assessment was based largely on the strength of continued market development where sales for battery and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles increased 70%, representing 2.2% of all sales in the world’s largest automotive market.
While the report identified China as the leading power in terms of ‘Industry’ (the regional value added by vehicle, system and component production) and ‘Market’, it noted that Chinese companies lag behind the traditional automotive powers in technology development. With a clear divergence between indigenous technology and market opportunity the environment has thus, not surprisingly, been ripe for major investment in joint ventures.
The European Chamber is delighted to welcome one of the reports key contributors Terry Gu, Principal of Roland Berger Greater China, to dig deeper into the findings of their extensive research. During this discussion Shi will also explain what is driving key trends in component development, in particularly in battery value chain ( battery technology trend and recycling pipeline), and discuss how this will impact OEM’s and companies across their supply chain.
