The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to a very important Auto and Auto Components Joint Working Group meeting on Monday, 7th April 2008 at 09:00 in the European Chamber’s Beijing and Shanghai Offices.
Please note that the meeting will be held simultaneously in the Beijing and Shanghai offices, which will be connected by videoconference.
Agenda
1. Secretary General Michael O'Sullivan will talk briefly about the Dual Membership Rule and the upcoming annual General Meeting on April 17th
2. Discussion and Vote on Merging the Automotive and Automotive Components Working Groups into one WG
3. Annual election of the Working Group(s) Chair and Vice Chair
4. Discussion of Position Paper Key Recommendations and Identification of Leads The Automotive and Automotive Components WGs have been holding joint meetings in Beijing for several months. It seems that there is a great overlap in interests, while the differences are quite small. Recently numerous members of both groups have expressed support for merging the two groups because it would result in one very active and well-participated WG. We will hold a vote on whether or not to merge the two working groups.
After the vote we will hold the 2008 Automotive Working Group Elections (and possibly the Auto Components WG Election if the groups decide not to merge). As you may know, the Chair and Vice Chairs play crucial roles in driving the the Working Group, which includes the drafting of the Position Paper, communicating key messages to the Chinese and European governments, and steering the Working Group meetings. A Chair or Vice Chair should be a senior industry representative with relevant industry expertise and government contacts who has the time and willingness to support the group. Previous participation in the Working Group is also highly valued (a general job description is attached).
Anyone who is interested in running for the position of Chair or Vice Chair is therefore kindly requested to inform Max Quillen (mquillen@euccc.com.cn) by March 31st.
In addition, we will also begin our discussions on the Position Paper for 2008. Specifically, we will go through the Key Recommendations summary and decide which ones are still relevant and if anything needs to be added. As the Position Paper forms the basis of all our lobbying, members are strongly encouraged to consult widely within their own company in advance so that they can then table such recommendations for discussion at this meeting.
We look forward to welcoming you at this meeting and would appreciate it if you could confirm your attendance before Thursday, 3rd April 2008 with Max Quillen at mquillen@euccc.com.cn.
