As you may know, in recent months the Chamber has undertaken the drafting of several Strategy Papers to further define Chamber goals and further optimize current resources. As a part of this process, the Chamber has consulted widely with Executive Committee members, Chairs (January 11th meeting in Beijing followed by individual meetings/calls in other Chapters) and Chamber staff on how to better organize the management of Working Groups. As a result, a significant number of people have indicated their preference and willingness to have a single Business Manager per Working Group instead of the current format in which the of the Working Group is frequently carried out by both a Beijing Business Manager and a Shanghai Business Manager. The advantages of reducing the management of a Working Group to a single Business Manager are many and include:
Allows a Business Manager to manage 2-3 Working Groups nationally than to co-manage 4-7 Working Groups regionally. Allows for increased specialization and knowledge building. Expedites decision making: due to the current co-managed format, many decisions are delayed because BMs need to consult with their colleagues in other cities before making a decision. Creates a greater sense of responsibility and accomplishment Leads to further integration between members and staff in different cities. Creates a one-stop shop. Each Business Manager will serve as the only point of reference within the Chamber for his/her area of expertise. As for Logistics WG, the European Chamber is pleased to announce that Ms.Marta Parente will be from now on taking the lead. Ms.Adele Wang shall remain involved and would attend the WG and local lobbying meetings when needed.
