What is Sustainable Business Awards? How will the applicants be evaluated? What makes a successful case? In order to support Shanghai member companies to better fill in the Sustainable Business Awards application forms and understand the whole evaluation process when applying, we are organizing an information session on 21^st May at 10:00 -11:30 am with expert from SYNTAO, our knowledge partner of the SBA, and judge representative from last year to introduce the awards at the Chamber Shanghai office.

This information session will give participants detailed information about 2019 Sustainable Business Awards, including awards categories, time schedule, evaluation process, evaluation methodology as well as a Q&A session to answer your further questions. Those who are interested in applying for 2019 Sustainable Business Awards will find this session very helpful for understanding the awards and anyone who would like to contribute to sustainable business are more than welcomed to attend this session.

At the information session, Ms. QI Tiantian from European Chamber Shanghai will introduce the general idea of 2019 Sustainable Business Awards and the evaluation process. Dr. LU Jianzhong, judge representative of 2018 Awards will introduce the evaluation observations. Mr. PENG Jilai from SYNTAO, the knowledge partner of the Awards, will introduce the awards categories as well as evaluation methodology of the awards. You will also have the chance to raise your questions about 2019 Sustainable Business Awards and we are happy to answer them. About 2019 Sustainable Business Awards:

In partnership with SYNTAO as our knowledge partner, the Sustainable Business Awards aim to acknowledge innovation leadership achievements, raise sustainability awareness, and share the responsible business model experiences with organizations looking to embrace responsible business competition in China. The European Chamber believes that there is an urgent need for enterprises to build a sustainable business model which integrates social and environmental responsibilities into commercial activities and makes competitive responsibility a strong driver for future development.

The submission is now OPEN. This year, the awards categories include Corporate Social Shared Values, Outstanding Environmental Performance, Poverty Alleviation, and Social Innovation Leadership. European Chamber member companies are eligible and encouraged to apply. The deadline for submissions is 23^th June 2019. All the applications will be assessed by a NINE judge’s panel representing a wide-variety of businesses, academy and social organizations in the sustainability field based on the criteria provided. The award winners will be announced at the 2019 European Business Awards Ceremony on 17^th September 2019. Selected application materials from winners will be published online in European Chamber Shanghai Focus newsletter. 

Why Sustainable Business Awards:

The Sustainable Business Awards have been growing fast since its establishment in 2017. The awards categories have increased from 3 to 4, which closely follow the EU 2020 targets, the UN Sustainable Development Goals and China’s long-term policy on poverty alleviation and environmental protection. Also, we see an increasing number of applicants from 2017 to 2018, showing that the Sustainable Business Awards have expanding impacts among enterprises.

Through the process of filling the awards application form, a company will deeply understand what a good CSR case is and what is appreciated. Sustainable Business Awards focuses on stakeholder engagement and long-term impact, rather than a PR-driven event or a fluffy activity. The judging criteria are systematic and objective; the evaluation process is open and transparent. The awards try its best to ensure that winning companies are worthy of the awards.

Will the Sustainable Business Awards contribute to the sustainable business in China from a long-term perspective? Yes, we have every reason to believe in it. The awards aim at being the leading thought and practice platform and an integrated value creation influencer in China. We hope Sustainable Business Awards could encourage more enterprises to work on sustainable business and this is how long-term changes happen.
