Dear Working Group Member,
Please join the Petrochemicals, Chemicals and Refining and Environment working groups for a presentation from Dr. Michael Siebold, Head of Hazard Communication and Chemical Regulations at Merck, on the digital revolution in global product safety.
Technological progress and the advent of the Internet of Things not only brings convenience and efficiency to product management but also strengthens companies’ abilities to uphold consumer protection. Particularly in the chemical industry, where safety is increasingly prioritized and companies must abide by a wide array of national and international regulations concerning hazardous products, digitization has the potential to upend business trends along the entire value chain. Yet according to a 2016 survey, over half of chemical companies lacked any roadmap to digital transformation. Furthermore, in recent years China has doubled down on chemical management, increasing reporting and other data obligations for companies producing chemical substances. It is thus more important than ever that industry players leverage technological trends to fulfil their requirements and excel in the domestic and global markets.
