In the past few years, China has made great achievements in poverty reduction with the participation of all segments of the society, from the government, to enterprises, NGOs, and ordinary people. What roles can MNCs play in alleviating poverty? Maybe Carrefour China can give us some inspiration.
“There is a trust we call it Carrefour”. As a responsible corporate citizen over the past 24 years, Carrefour China always cares for two specific groups in rural areas: farmers and children. According to this, Carrefour China has developed a strategy of empowering the underprivileged with continuous caring. Projects such as Micro-credit Project, Direct Purchase and Happy Children Center have been launched in impoverished areas across China for many years. All of these efforts show Carrefour’s shared value with rural farmers, customers, government and all stakeholders.
The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China,is pleased to invite Ms. Wei Dai, Vice President of Carrefour China, to share with us their experience on poverty alleviation projects. Carrefour China was the winner of the Poverty Alleviation Award Category at the European Chamber's 2018 Sustainable Business Awards held by Shanghai Chapter. At the panel session, we also invite the judge representative of the 2018/2019 Sustainable Business Awards and the representatives of CECP China to dive deep into how MNCs design and implement poverty alleviation actions in China.
