The European Chamber is happy to invite you to the kick-off meeting of the Standards and Conformity Assessment Working Group (SCA WG), which will take place online via Zoom on Tuesday, 17^th March 2020, from 15:30 to 17:00.

The main topics for this meeting will be the revision of  the activities of the WG in 2019, as well as the establishment of the WG priorities for 2020 and the discussion on the upcoming SCA WG Position Paper. Thus, members are strongly encouraged to join the discussion and provide input on the key issues which will likely shape the activities of the WG this year.

During this meeting we will hold our 2020-2021 chair elections. Working Group members interested in running for this year’s Chair elections, should take notice of the following:

Call for Candidates to Chair and Vice Chairperson – Roles and Responsibilities

The Chairperson and Vice Chairs play a crucial role in driving the Working Group, including a leadership role in the drafting of the Position Paper, communicating key messages to Chinese and European government authorities and steering Working Group meetings. The desired characteristics of a Chair and Vice Chairs are a senior industry representative with relevant expertise and government contacts who has the time and willingness to support the Working Group. Previous participation in the Working Group is essential. Before applying for the position of Chair or Vice Chair, we recommend that you obtain approval from your company. The maximum duration of Chairperson or Vice Chairperson of a Group is three consecutive years. Candidates are only eligible for Chair or Vice Chair positions if he/she is physically based in China. In case of more than one candidacies being presented for the same chairperson position, only SCA WG members who had their confirmed registration for this meeting will have the right to vote online, with one vote per company.

The Standards and Conformity Assessment WG is going to elect representatives for the Beijing, Shanghai, and South China Chapters, respectively.

The Chairs and Vice Chairs should represent different sectors and issues, therefore we encourage employees across industries as well as candidates both of Regulatory Affairs and Government Affairs background to apply for elections. • • how your background and experience match the role
  • the goals you have for the WG over the following 12 months
  • how you intend to utilise or share professional resources for the benefit of the WG

In accordance with European Chamber internal guidelines, another email will be sent to the Working Group prior to the election, with the biographies and motivation letters of all candidates attached. The duration of the term for both Chairs and Vice Chairs is one year. All elected Chairpersons must sign the Code of Conduct following the election.
