Dear Pharmaceutical WG Member,
The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to the next Pharmaceutical Working Group Meeting which will be held on Friday, November 28th, 2008 at 2pm at the European Chamber Offices in Beijing and Shanghai.
Agenda
1. Presentation on Distribution issues by John Kallend of Alliance-Healthcare.net.
Presentation Part 1 Perspective on the current Chinese wholesale and retail market and the prospects for the next five years: As China continues to grow and the standard of living increases, more focus will be placed on improving healthcare, life expectancy, the quality of life and reducing risk. This will lead to a steady increase in expenditure on health, by the government, by families and individuals. This increase in expenditure will lead to a greater demand for pharmaceutical and healthcare products. As the demands for pharmaceutical and healthcare products increases there will be greater demands for easy and quick access to the right product and cost efficiency and security of the supply chain The current supply/value chain for pharmaceuticals and healthcare products (Hospitals/Community Hospitals/ Drugstores and wholesalers/ distributors) is too fragmented to support the need for cost efficiency and security. The current supply/value chain has changed considerably since 2000 but more change should be expected over the next five years with a move towards community hospitals/ drugstores and more consolidation of wholesalers/distributors. Presentation Part 2 The results of the questionnaire that Guangzhou Pharmaceuticals conducted during the last few months with the Top 25 multinational manufacturers on the services that they require from the wholesale and retail market: The results of the questionnaire from the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Manufacturers. How is Guangzhou Pharmaceuticals going to respond to the requirements identified by the manufacturers? 2. Healthcare Reform Plan Draft. Discussion of the plan, and also comments submitted by European Chamber members.
