The rollout of COVID-19 vaccines has started in multiple countries, but mass immunisation will still take time and the costs associated with it will be significant and may increase the gap between the world’s richest and poorest nations in terms of vaccination timelines.
As COVID-19 vaccines reach more people in more countries, what have we learned from the early rollout? What is the current situation and what can we all do in the meantime to limit the spread of this virus?

Advisory Council Policy
Members of the Advisory Council may receive complimentary admission to Chamber seminars, conferences and factory visits up to two attendees per event. Additional participants will be charged at the member rate.
Advisory Council members will still be charged the standard member rate for participation in training courses and special events, such as gala balls, government appreciation dinners, or admission to corporate social events/tournaments.

Speakers
Dr. Ioana Kraft
Ioana has been based in Shanghai since 2003 where she worked for the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (European Chamber) from 2004 to 2022. From 2009 to 2022 she served as General Manager of the Chamber’s Shanghai Chapter and was responsible for implementation and development of European Chamber objectives, visibility, and advocacy activities on a regional level in Shanghai and neighbouring regions.
Ioana is currently an Associate Director with X-PM Transition Partners, a leading European Executive Interim and Transition Management firm with teams in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong. X-PM is part of the WIL group, a network of 13 firms operating in 35 countries that deliver interim and transition solutions to clients around the world and offers a unique international “multi-sourcing” model that leverages the assets of each member firm and ensures the best assignments globally.
A German-qualified lawyer, Ioana practiced with a German law firm in Shanghai from 2003 and 2004. She also holds a PhD degree in law from Heinrich Heine University, Düsseldorf, where she worked from 1999 to 2003 as a Senior Research Assistant focussing on the areas of Civil Law, Insurance Law, Comparative Law, International Private Law and Labour Law.
Dr. Emanuel Luttersdorfer
Austrian born Dr. Emanuel Luttersdorfer holds a doctoral degree in Medicine from the Medical University at Graz, Austria. He has undergone postgraduate training in the fields of Tropical Medicine and Occupational Health being awarded degrees by Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand and Manchester University in the United Kingdom. He is living and working in Beijing since 2009. Next to his duties as a Clinic Doctor working for Raffles Medical he is a certified Emergency Doctor and the Austrian Embassy associated doctor as well as one of the designated consulting doctors for the German Embassy.
Mr. Dimitri Lavillette
Dimitri LAVILLETTE received his PhD in 2000 in Lyon (Lyon University) and achieved a 3 year post doc in the laboratory of David Kabat (“HIV-1, retroviruses and receptors”; Portland, Oregon, U.S.A.). He then secured a tenure staff scientist position at the National Center of Scientific Research in France (CNRS) (2003-2014). In 2014, he took a Professor position at the Pasteur Institute Shanghai – Chinese academy of Sciences (IPS-CAS, China) to create and lead the “Interspecies transmission of arboviruses and antiviral therapies”. Having worked on major virus threats (Human immunodeficiency virus, Hepatitis C virus), he decided recently to develop works on emerging and re-emerging viruses transmitted by mosquitoes like Dengue and Chikungunya viruses. By studying both infections in mammals and insects in vitro and/or in vivo, his global project explores: i) the role of key viral and host determinants of cytopathogenicity ii) the host factors and viral patterns involved in interspecies infection and host susceptibility. Using his expertise, this year, he developed therapeutic strategies against SARS-CoV-2 virus using vaccine and neutralizing antibodies. Dimitri LAVILLETTE recognition can be inferred from his 65 publications, his participation to more than 90 communications at international meetings, 10 patents, his tenure French national position at CNRS, his election at the “European society for virology” as treasurer (2013-2016) and organizer of its meeting in 2013, and his consulting activities for biotechnology companies. In China, Dimitri LAVILLETTE was the laureate of the 100 talent from CAS, 1000 Talent of Shanghai Municipality and the 2020 Magnolia sliver Award from Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office.
Ms. Mattie Bekink
Mattie Bekink is responsible for the Economist Intelligence Corporate Network’s China strategy, including programme development and client engagement across China.
Ms Bekink has extensive experience in the public, private and policy sectors. Prior to joining The Economist Group, she was the Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission in the Netherlands. She also ran an eponymous consulting business, advising businesses, universities and non-profit organisations on China policy, strategy, public affairs, and CSR. Ms Bekink practiced law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, has worked with the US-Asia Law Initiative at NYU Law School and the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative China Program, and served in the legal department at General Motors China.
Ms Bekink has a BA in International Relations from Stanford University and a JD from the Georgetown University Law Center.
