Introduction
In the beginning of the meeting David Lee informed that he will leave EUCCC. In fact the day this meeting was held was the last working day for David. David will continue to support EUCC for some while, among others to prepare for the China EU dialogue end of March. EUCCC is in the process of recruiting a new person to replace David.
EU – China Dialogue
We discussed the agenda for the EU China dialogue days. A tentative agenda looks as follows:
Monday March 30th
- Meeting EU Peter Klein (morning)
- Meeting NFM WG (morning)
o The meeting should be a pre-meeting for the EU-China dialogue meeting March 31st. Besides that a discussion should also take place regarding the Position Paper 2009 - 2010
- Meeting MIIT (day time)
- Meeting with Mr Guy Thiram Eurometaux (dinner)
Tuesday March 31st
- EU-China Dialogue
- Meeting with NDRC / CNIA
o Jointly with EU and Eurometaux
EUCCC NFM WG
A discussion took place regarding the present member status and the WG activities. Alcan has been active within Finance & Taxation WG. Both Umicore and Wieland have been active within the IPR area. Plansee, an Austrian Copper company, has announced its interest to participate at the NFM WG.
Torbjorn suggested that we should invite a China Economist who could comment on the present Chinese Economy and especially give an analysis regarding economical activities that has influence on the Non-Ferrous Metal area. David explained that similar ideas have been discussed within EUCCC and that he will follow up this.
We discussed the possibility to arrange a NFM WG meeting in Shanghai March 27th and in Beijing March 30th. The tentative agenda could be as follows:
1) Member activities
2) Introduction of a think-tank
3) EU-China dialogue
4) Position Paper 2009 – 2010
5) Member activities going forward
NFM WG - CNIA
Nothing has happened regarding a written document in form of memorandum or statement of cooperation between EUCCC and CNIA. David will contact Mr Bian Gang at CNIA, eventually a short meeting could take place March 30th or 31st.
