Metaverse, a concept originated in science-fiction, suddenly entered public discourse in 2021 especially after Facebook renamed itself as Meta. Although it has been generally agreed that metaverse is the future way of living for mankind, there is still a long way to go in terms of technological and social preparation. However, this does not impair people’s enthusiasm to discuss and imagine that future. For companies, it is important to familiarise with this new trend, get prepared and seize opportunities as early as possible. 

The way that we interact with the digital world keeps changing. Traditional devices are extending their reach with gestures and voice interaction and real-world scenarios are being tested through the use of digital twins. In moving with some inevitability toward the metaverse, the physical and digital worlds will further converge in a way that will open new possibilities for businesses.

The European Chamber Marketing and Communications Forum is delighted to welcome Mr Joe Peng, Chief Digital Officer, BCW Asia-Pacific, author of The Metaverse: Moving People in Web 3.0, and Ms Rujia Wang, global head of customer experience, Project & Design, Thoughtworks to share their insights. Mr Peng will present on the overview and opportunities for brands, supported by cases/inspirations from brands who would have experimented with the metaverse concept. Ms Wang will discuss the trends to watch in relation to the human-machine experience and advice for businesses, in particular with a focus on the challenges and possibilities for the customer experience. The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion which will be moderated by Ms Feng Xin, Founder & CEO, Beijing SourceEngine Technology and a veteran journalist.
