Public Procurement Working Group Meeting
Thursday, 31 March at 9 am
European Chamber Office
Be it providing new software equipment to the Central Government, erecting bus stops in Harbin, supplying new cars to Shanghai Municipality or participating in the Beijing 2008 preparations, essential aspects of good public procurement practices are fair and open competition, transparency, and elimination of bribery and corruption.
Based on the interest generated by the Government Procurement Breakfast Seminar we hosted on 1 March, we are pleased to inform you that EUCCC is launching a Public Procurement Working Group (PP WG) as a platform for European companies to address the challenges they face in the current environment.
We would therefore be delighted if you could join us on Thursday 31 March for our first PP WG meeting.
On this occasion, we are pleased to welcome Professor Yu An, Tsinghua University.
Professor Yu chairs the Task Force set up in 2003 in view of China?? negotiations to join the WTO Government Procurement Agreement (GPA). The Task force launched a research programme to plan the negotiations and study the implications of GPA for China. In his capacity as law professor at Tsinghua University, Professor Yu is also an expert in China?? Government Procurement Law (GPL).
Our tentative agenda includes the following:
- Discussion forum with Professor Yu An
- Discussion and approval of forward agenda/lobbying strategies for 2005
- Prepare WG briefing for upcoming official visit from the European Commission (18 April)
- Discuss European Industry participation to Government Procurement Seminar hosted by Ministry of Finance (20 April)
- Election of Chair/Vice Chair
Thank you for confirming your attendance at your earliest convenience to dsalaun@euccc.com.cn. Feel free to email specific issues you would like to address during discussion ahead of time. We also encourage interested members to submit their candidacy by email for the Chair or Vice Chair(s) positions.
