The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is delighted to announce that the second session in the Insight China Seminar series will be held in Beijing on May 19th.
Insight China is the European Chamber’s quarterly Macro-Economic Seminar. Each quarter we invite three leading economists to share their views and opinions on current trends in the Chinese economy. Stay ahead of the curve by joining us at China World on Tuesday, May 19th.
Is this China’s moment?
Looking at the latest GDP forecasts and massive credit expansion it seems for now that China’s economy has decoupled from the western economies. More money was lent by Chinese banks during the first quarter of 2009 than for the whole of last year, and GDP predictions are being revised upwards. This stands in stark contrast to what we see happening in Europe and the US.
So how sustainable is this trend? Is China leading the world out of recession? And will the government have the courage to use this opportunity to push for the tough necessary reforms or will this give new strength to the economic nationalist voices ?
