For the past week, a new round of power cuts was implemented in multiple cities and industrial zones in several parts of China including Jiangsu Province. The official cause of this power situation is reportedly to be the unprecedented heat happening in this summer. When the grid has been reaching its limit, civilian use of electricity is prioritised to ensure the normal livelihood of the citizens while industrial production is limited to reduce the pressure especially during peak hours of electricity consumption.
Compared with the power cuts in the Autumn of 2021, this round has different reasons according to both the government statement and the extreme weather we all can feel in most cities. However, the similar problems as in last year still occurred to many enterprises, which caused challenges, dissatisfactions, complains and expectations for explanations and solutions.
The European Chamber is highly concerned with the situation and has been in touch with the relevant government departments to work on solutions. To make sure your voices will be heard, we’d like to invite European business leaders to virtually gather to share your challenges and experiences with peers. This will also be a great opportunity to learn from each other, to examine and reflect the risk management process, and to engage with the community.
