In February 2022, the EU Commission adopted a proposal for a directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence. The Proposed Directive will need to go through the European Parliament and the Council for approval and may still incur amendments. Once passed, the EU member states will have two years to transpose the directive into national law. Germany is ahead of this schedule already: On January 1, 2023, its law on Supply Chain Due Diligence Obligations will enter into effect.
The tightening regulations will affect supply chain management and the way companies conduct their business. As direct or indirect suppliers to large EU companies or their subsidiaries, SMEs see great relevance, including those operating in mainland China.
This event is to bring up-to-date insights into the landscape of sustainable due diligence in mainland China and its implications for SME businesses in the Chinese market.
What to learn from the webinar:
- The development of sustainability due diligence in China
- How to manage sustainability due diligence issues efficiently in China
- How will an SME be affected from 2023 as a direct or indirect supplier?
- Which main legal positions are protected under the German law, i.e. in which areas is corporate sustainability due diligence required?
- What does Chinese law already regulate regarding these legal positions?
- Which practical next steps could an SME in China take?
