An introduction to the Chinese tax system for FIE from Ralph Dreher, a senior manager in the Tax and Business Advisory Services in the PWC Shanghai office and a member of the European Tax Desk. Ralph will also give an up-date regarding the latest challenges arising from Corporate Tax Reforms and other tax trends including:

Ralph is an experienced China tax and business advisor assisting foreign investors to formulate their China investment strategy and efficient China tax schemes. Regulations and HR
An introduction to the natures and complexities of corporate registration and operation in China from Ralph Koppitz, Partner in Taylor Wessing. Ralph’s presentation will examine the new regulations for representative offices as well as the changes to SME HR operations stemming from the new Labor Contract Law.
Ralph advises German and international manufacturing and service companies on all legal aspects related to their business transactions in China. This includes the areas of foreign direct investment, M&A (share and asset deal acquisitions, mergers of foreign invested enterprises, equity transfers), restructuring and liquidation, technology transfer, and labor law. Ralph has specific experience in the manufacturing (including medical devices, pharmaceutical, chemical), and service sectors (including logistics, trading and certification services). Increasingly important becomes the advice concerning China-outbound M&A and direct Chinese investments in Germany.

IP Challenges for SMEs
An introduction to the current and continuing IP challenges from an SME perspective in China by Elliot Papageorgiou - Executive, Rouse & Co. International. Elliot will also discuss the impact (if any) of the Global financial crisis on the behaviour of SME’s, infringers, and IP authorities from an IP perspective and examine the key question of whether protection of rights going to get easier or harder.
Elliot is admitted to the bar of New York, in England & Wales, and in the State of Victoria in Australia. Elliot has been practising intellectual property law for 13 years and during his 9 years with Rouse & Co., has worked in Rouse & Co.’s Oxford, London, Munich, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai offices. Elliot has been advising international companies in China on contentious and non-contentious intellectual property and competition matters, with a focus on protection, exploitation, and enforcement of their rights in China.
