The European Chamber Human Resources Working Group cordially invites you to join our discussions around 'Supporting Employee Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace.'
Schools, like workplaces, are environments where individuals experience a wide range of emotions, from happiness to depression. In today’s changing world, young people, like adults, require support for their mental health. HR professionals and schools are seeking ways to care for the mental wellbeing of their employees and community members. In this working group meeting, Wellington College International Shanghai's counsellors and performing arts professionals will present The Sunshine Method, their unique approach to group drama therapy.
In addition, Dr. JIANG Wei, Chief of the Mental Health Department at Jiahui Health, will discuss the necessity of practicing mindfulness within the workplace. The stressful, ever-changing, and fast-paced environment of the workplace can take a toll on the mind and body. Studies show that practicing mindfulness can reduce stress, anxiety, and exhaustion while improving focus, employee engagement, decision-making abilities, and overall well-being. Dr. Jiang will share her insights about mental well-being through mindfulness, including the most advanced approaches to mental health and the key elements of emotional maturity.

Ms. Helen Heatley
Ms. Helen Heatley
Helen Heatley began her career as a professional actress and dancer, working all over the world in famous shows such as "Hello Hollywood Hello" and "Tina and Tony's Wedding". She gained a BA Hons degree in acting from a renowned drama school in London (ALRA). She qualified as a drama teacher and, over the past 24 years, developed a highly successful model for managing schools, classrooms, playgrounds and Early Years settings. This model is based on her teaching experience, research and collaboration with very challenging schools and local authorities in the UK. Helen won a prestigious award from Sheffield City Council for outstanding contribution in the community. This took the form of a drama therapy/theatre company for deprived and disengaged families. Helen has taught drama to children from years 1 to 5 at Wellington College Shanghai. She is the founder of Wellington College Shanghai's Sunshine Method, a re-energised positive behaviour whole-school approach to enhancing self-esteem, supporting emotional health and wellbeing and building positive relationships in an educational community. Drama techniques, such as puppets and masks for example, can support child development and emotional intelligence. At Wellington, staff and parents benefit from weekly/termly intervention groups to support wellbeing in the community. Wellbeing should be a priority for all establishments.
