Given the digitalisation of our world, it is no surprise that intellectual property (IP) protections are increasingly extended to data. Currently, existing IP legal frameworks are used to cover data IP in some cases, but many of China’s local-level intellectual property administrations are launching trial initiatives with the aim to establish specialised data IP registration and transfer channels. China is acting on this issue before the European Union, meaning that, for many companies, China will be the first market where data-specific IP regulation affects their businesses.
During the meeting, Mr Kevin Duan, partner at Han Kun Law Offices, will share an overview of the current state of data IP in China. He will introduce what constitutes data IP, explain why data IP is necessary and elaborate on future developments to expect in the data IP field. The meeting will serve as both a useful introduction to those unfamiliar with data IP protections and an opportunity to ask in-depth questions about its future developments.
