The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is delighted to support an afternoon workshop on "Understanding the Business Case of Work-Life Balance and Diversity", co-organized by Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy and CSR Asia, on Wednesday 18th November in Beijing.
As we are entering a new globalised world with a gradually recovering economy, there are two issues increasingly sit on management agenda of any responsible business: work-life balance and diversity.
Over the course of their careers, employees undergo changes in their personal lives that may cause shifts in the work-life balance. Extensive research has shown that employees who achieve a balance between their work and their life outside work are more productive, loyal and committed to their employers. However, promoting work-life balance is still relatively new in China. Last two years there were astonishing number of suicide cases in which death caused from overwork. Media reports about these cases have wakened up people’s minds to think hard about how to manage stress from work while maintaining a healthy lifestyle at the same time. As companies are growing and operating internationally, recognising the importance of diversity is a fundamental issue to do business globally. As societies become more complex, we must stay relevant, open to difference and debates. Diversity means valuing all and providing real opportunities for staff and customers. Diversity should be placed as a top agenda of business leaders.
Therefore, CSR Asia and British Council (operates as Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Beijing) are jointly presenting Understanding the Business Case of Work-Life Balance and Diversity, to bring business leaders and CSR practitioners together to discuss their policies and best practices. As leaders on work-life balance and diversity, both British Council and Dell will present how to leverage Diversity to competitive advantage and integrate it throughout business operation, and share study cases of work-life balance in China and worldwide.
