The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to the next Construction Working Group meeting. It will be held on Wednesday, 7th August 14:30 – 16:30 at the European Chamber Beijing office, and online.
As a key contributor to carbon emissions, the built environment is also a key sector where the green transition must be accelerated. Recent policy developments proposed by China’s Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development have introduced discussions on “better houses,” which promote sustainable building design focused on five aspects, namely: “green,” “smart,” “healthy,” “low-carbon” and “safe.” But how should architectural design work to achieve these goals and integrate them with existing green labelling schemes?
At this meeting, Professor Song Yehao will discuss green building theory and design approaches that fully utilise natural and social conditions, including nature and resources, cultural diversity, and social responsibility, while also taking into account specific local and regional contexts. Dr Song is a tenured professor and the Director of the Institute of Architecture and Technology at the School of Architecture at Tsinghua University and has recently been elected as Chairman of the Active House National Alliance China. He also serves as secretary-general of the “green buildings theoretical and practical group” of the Chinese Green Building Committee.
Following Dr Song’s presentation, Mr Morten Holm will give a presentation on urban development within planetary boundaries and the role of circular design in green architecture. Mr Holm has been a partner at Archiland International since 2009 and leads on ecological, sustainable and carbon footprint-focused projects. He is a leading industry designer and has been awarded numerous awards for sustainable architecture and urban design in Europe and China for the past thirty years, including for the first zero-carbon building in China.
