Background
With the improvement in people's quality of life, people's demand for pet raising has increased. The number of pets in China's urban areas rises steadily, creating a large pet market. In 2023, the urban pet (dogs and cats) consumption market grew to 279.3 billion yuan and pet consumption is becoming more diversified. The demand for scientific pet care is gradually emerging, and the pet nutrition and health economy has broad prospects for development.
To have a better understanding of the opportunities, challenges and prospects of the pet nutrition and health industry, the European Chamber Agriculture, Food and Beverage (AFB) Working Group is honoured to have Dr. WANG Jinquan, Chief scientist, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor of the Pet Nutrition and Food Sciences Innovation Team at the Institute of Feed Research, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to share his insights on the development of China’s pet food industry.
