Dear Members of IPR Working Group,
On the 10th of November 2004, the European Commission adopted a Strategy for the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in Third Countries. This Strategy is an action plan, aiming at reducing the level of counterfeiting and piracy across EU borders, in particular in countries where it has reached worrying proportions and is seriously harming EU right holders.
In order to implement this strategy DG Trade is currently conducting a survey that will allow defining its priorities regarding the enforcement of intellectual property rights in third countries, as established in the Enforcement Strategy. Furthermore, it will update the Commission?? previous survey of enforcement in third countries, released in 2003.
