IT&T Working Group Meeting
Friday, 3 June from 9:00 to 11:00
European Chamber Office
MOST Minister Xu Guanhua and EU Research Commissioner Janez Potocnik agreed at a recent high-level forum to further promote collaboration between the EU and China in the field of Science & Technology. To help better understand the needs of European R&D in China, officials from the EU Delegation and MOST would be keen to engage IT&T WG members during our next meeting and informally discuss issues relating to IPR, importing prototypes, product launches, standards, people exchanges, and access to Chinese research and programmes - a chance for you to voice ideas and concerns directly with policymakers.
While the first hour will be dedicated to providing feedback to representatives from the EU and MOST, the second hour will focus internally on the new draft of the IT&T Position Paper (to be circulated during the meeting). We will deliberate and try to reach consensus on the structure/language of the Paper, weaving together the results of discussions held during recent special meetings (on VAS, standards, IPR, Basic Services). Feel free to email ahead of time with additional points you'd like to raise with the Group. We've been urged to bring up member difficulties in using the internet in Beijing, for instance, and the extent to which that's a concern for European business.

Sponsored by leading European and Chinese partners, the VAS China Project was established to research China's needs relating to existing and future mobile VAS. Project representatives will hold a workshop on 2-3 and would appreciate an opportunity to meet IT&T members dealing with VAS to exchange ideas and gain additional guidance on practical ways forward. Additional information about the Project can be found on www.vas-china-project.org.
