Dear Working Group Member,
The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to the next combined Legal and Competition Working Group Meeting which will be held on Friday 26 March, 2010, 13:30 – 16:00 at both EUCCC’s offices in Beijing and Shanghai.
Both Chapters will start off separately with having their Working Group Chair and Vice Chair Elections. Then, we will establish our audio and video link and together kick off the Position Paper process 2010-2011.
As you may know, the Legal and Competition Chairs and Vice Chairs play a crucial role in driving the Working Group which includes a leadership role in the drafting of the Position Paper, communicating key messages to the Chinese and European Government, and steering the Working Group meetings. The desired characteristics of a Chair and Vice Chair are a senior industry representative with relevant industry expertise and government contacts that has the time and willingness to support the group. Previous participation in the Working Group is also highly valued (a general job description is attached).
Currently, for Beijing Chapter we have Mr. Antony Dapiran (Freshfields) as our Chair and François Renard (Allen & Overy) as our Vice Chair (and Competition Chair at the same time). Both indicated to be eligible for re-election.
Currently, for Shanghai Chapter we have Mr. Peter Corne (Eversheds) as our Chair and as Vice Chairs Mr. Rainer Burkardt (Squire, Sanders, Dempsey) and Mr. Martin Commons (Baker&McKenzie). Martin is Competition Chair at the same time. Peter has indicated he wants to step down as Chair. Rainer has indicated he is eligible for the Chair position.
Anyone who is possibly interested in running for the position of Chair, Vice Chair and Chair of Competition is also encouraged and kindly requested to inform Charlotte Jarosz at cjarosz@euccc.com.cn , by 23th, March, COB. We require a short bio and a statement of your interest. All candidates will be asked to present themselves to the group. Each member company is entitled to one vote.
The annual Position Paper forms the basis of our lobbying activities, and the Chamber will start the drafting process of the Position Paper 2010/11 in March. The first deadline will be 26th March, by then drafts for PP recommendations nead to be ready. Due to the urgency, members are strongly encouraged to read last year's Position Paper and consult widely within their own company in advance so that they can then table such recommendations for discussion at this meeting. Please find attached the Position Paper 2009/10 and the Key Recommendations sheet we will discuss during the meeting.
As always, we welcome your suggestions for agenda topics and possible speakers for this and future meetings.
Tentative WG Agenda:
1. WG Chair Election (Each Chapter separate)
2. Discussion of Position Paper; Key points and the process (Together via A/V link)
3. Friday afternoon drinks? tdb
To attend this meeting, please register with Charlotte Jarosz at cjarosz@euccc.com.cn by Friday 23th March, 2010
Best regards,
Tim Werkhoven
