Dear members of the CSR Forum,
It is a great pleasure to invite you to a very interesting meeting in the field of CSR and Sustainability on Thursday 1 April from 09:30 – 11:30. We will organise a joint meeting, so interested members can visit both our Beijing and our Shanghai office. We also extend the invitation to our Environment Working Group members, for it might interest them as well.
On this day, we will have the honour to receive (physically in Beijing) Mr. Sean Gilbert, Asia representative of the Global Reporting Initiative (www.globalreporting.org). GRI is the largest international platform where business, NGO’s and national and international governments come together to discuss and develop Sustainability Reporting Standards. They are widely used all over the world and also by a large part of our members.
The European Chamber would like to build a long term relationship with GRI. In our upcoming meeting with Sean, we will discuss and list possible ways of cooperation. Sean will also share with us his vast knowledge on Guidelines and Reporting both worldwide and in China. Topics he would like to cover with us are:
- What is happening with reporting and CSR in China ?
- What does this means for European companies ?
- GRI’s plans and their relevance for the European Chamber members
We will also discuss the European Chamber Position Paper process for 2010. Building on the CSR forum description of last year (attached) we propose to update relevant descriptions and to add some Key Recommendations, such as:
- New comments and recommedations on the SASAC Guidelines
- The proliferation of Reporting Guidelines in China on a national and local level
- The EUCCC support to the Chinese government to stimulate Sustainability Reporting amongst Chinese companies (especially Small and Medium Sized)
- The EUCCC support to Supply Chain Benchmarking
Any input and additional points from you are welcome. We aim to jointly complete a first draft on 23 April. Our final version, in both Chinese and English will have to be ready on 21 May. We hope to publish our Position Paper in August.
To join our meeting, please register and indicate your location of attendance to my colleague Junda Lin, jlin@euccc.com.cn
Please note that next week the European chamber organises a conference on Development Zones in Shanghai, which might be of benefit to your company. For more information and registration, visit: http://www.euccc.com.cn/view/events/fullview?eid=2733
Best Regards,
Tim Werkhoven
