The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is delighted to announce that the first session of the Insight China Seminar 2010 series will be held in Beijing on 6th May at the Kerry Center Hotel in Beijing.
Insight China is the European Chamber’s quarterly Macro Economic Seminar. Each quarter we invite three leading economists to share their views and opinions on current trends in the Chinese economy.
China's Economy: Should We Be Worried?
Since the tremendous efforts to open up the economy to foreign investment and trade, the country has had continuous high growth rates. Despite the recent global economic downturn, China’s economy grew 8.7 percent last year. However, any signs of potential economic problems are carefully analised by the media, though no striking symptoms have yet clearly occurred. Amid growing concerns that all may not be well with the Chinese economy, officials at the NPC 2010 session China confidently predicted another year of rapid expansion, while simultaneously vowing to take steps in preventing a bubble forming.
Is the Chinese economy overheating, heading to inflationary pressure? How would China cope with skyrocketing loan growth that may lead to increasing NPL and overinvestment, especially in the housing market? Is China a ‘currency manipulator’ that keeps its currency ‘undervalued’, ignoring the call from the international community for a more flexible Yuan? Can China tackle these possible problems while maintaining the rapid economic growth in the coming years?
Join us on May 6th and hear from Fan Gang, Ardo Hansson and Patrick Chovanec on how China could cope with this complex situation.
