Dear Legal Members,
The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to our next combined Legal and Competition WG meeting on Wednesday 12 May 8am – 09:30am. We will discuss the then available latest draft of the legal sections of the Legal Position Paper (see 1st drafts attached). Please register with my colleague Charlotte Jarosz at Cjarosz@euccc.com.cn, indicating your presence at our Beijing or Shanghai office.
A. Tentative Agenda
Position Paper discussion
Ralph Koppitz, TAYLOR WESSING: report on Department of Lawyers and Law Firms of the Ministry of Justice survey meeting / annual inspection
Decide on form and date for: speech to the EUCCC by the head of the Shanghai Arbitration Commission
Important message to all members of the Legal Working Group:
Our Position Papers will be widely read by high level persons and organisations around the world; Chinese Ministers and EU Commissioners, to name just a few. They will read it, use it and they will follow up on our positions. It is therefore of absolute and pertinent importance that all of you contribute to the content and the quality of our positions. This will be key for achieving the goals that we as a legal profession so hardly strive for here in China.
B. Next Steps:
TUESDAY 27 APRIL DEADLINE: Read the sections and give your input to the Lead Pens (as named below)
WEDNESDAY 28 APRIL , 5pm:Lead Pens submit 2nd drafts of their section to Business Manager
THURSDAY 29 APRIL Business Manager distributes 2nd consolidated drafts to all the WG Members
FRIDAY 7 MAY DEADLINE: Members submit their further comments to the 2nd drafts to Business Manager
WEDNESDAY 12 MAY, 4pm Combined Legal meeting BJ+SH to discuss all received comments
FRIDAY 14 MAY, 5pm Business Manager circulates 3rd Draft to all members inviting comments
THURSDAY 20 MAY DEADLINE: last possibility for members to provide input to the Position Paper drafts
FRIDAY 21 MAY, 5pm Lead pens submit their final draft to Business Manager
Thereafter the translation, proof reading and printing stages of the PP will commence. Publication: September 2010.

D. Drafting Rules
- Much shorter than last year; from 11 pages currenlty to 7 pages
- Easy to read and accessible for lay persons
- Practical and usable for (government) engagement
- Revise and submit drafts using Track Changes
