We are pleased to announce that Mr Bill Zhang, Vice Department Chief of the Lawyers Administration Department of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice has accepted to speak at our next Legal Working Group meeting on Monday, 13th June at 8:30 am at the European Chamber's Office.

Discussion with Mr Bill Zhang. The following topics have been proposed for discussion:
路 Update on CEPA.
路 Employment of PRC lawyers by foreign law firms to advise on PRC law.
路 An update on joint ventures with Chinese firms.
路 Employment of PRC nationals with foreign law qualifications.
路 Licencing - are there plans to change the current annual licence renewal e. g. to move back to the previous scheme of renewals every 3 years?路 Work permits for foreign lawyers ??again, are there plans to change the current year by year system, e. g. say, to grant two year work permits?
路 Update regarding the discussed plans to put the supervision of foreign law firms under the administration of the local lawyers??associations.
路 A number of service sectors, previously heavily restricted and regulated, have gradually been liberalized (e.g., joint ventures permitted in banking, insurance, accounting industries etc.). Does Ministry of Justice (and Shanghai Justice Bureau) have any plans to further open up the legal service sector? If ??es?? is there a timetable in mind? 路 Registration of a representative of a foreign law firm office in China normally takes five to six months to complete. Can steps be taken to streamline/shorten the registration procedure? Introduction of the new Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Shanghai Legal Working Group Position Paper 2005. We have attached a copy of last year's Paper to this invitation . We truly welcome your comments and further input.
