The UNCTAD World Investment Forum 2010 provides an unprecedented opportunity and unique platform to interact with global leaders, senior policymakers, corporate executives, investors and investment promotion agencies from 192 countries. It takes place at a time when governments, business leaders and civil society are together faced with fundamental challenges.
Firstly, the global financial crisis has shaken the world economy and its structures, has exposed systemic risks and highlighted governance gaps. Governments must reassess how they manage, promote and regulate the flows of investment in and out of their countries and how these can better stimulate their economies, deal with their macroeconomic positions and create jobs. TNCs must re-examine their business models, rebalance their risk strategies and take stock of the growing importance of emerging economies.
Secondly, the economic and social consequences of climate change are becoming evermore clear. They urge for collaborative solutions from governments and companies to meet the challenges of delivering greater energy efficiency, investing in greener technologies and driving changes in lifestyles and consumption patterns. The race is on to ensure that countries and companies will succeed in the new green economy.
Meeting these challenges calls for broad vision, decisive action and close cooperation. Through dialogue and interaction, participants will help set the agenda and gain key insights in building global and national institutions, policies and models of collaboration that can help create a sustainable future.
As WIF 2010 takes place in conjunction with the China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), participants will benefit from substantial networking opportunities and will have the opportunity to meet with key figures in China's Central and Provincial Government; and enterprise sector.
