The European Chamber Tianjin Chapter would like to invite you to attend the briefing of H.E. Blaise Godet, Ambassador of Switzerland to China, on main issues and current developments in Swiss-Chinese economic relations.
Ambassador Godet will give an overview of the recent and upcoming developments of the bilateral relations of Switzerland and China and will discuss current economic and political issues. His speech will be followed by a brief Q&A session, which will give a chance to the participants to further discuss topics.
He will cover the following points during his speech:
- 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations
- Development and current status of bilateral trade relations
- Existing institutional framework of bilateral economic cooperation
- Update on the ongoing works towards a possible free trade agreement
H. E. Blaise Godet
Ambassador of Switzerland to the People's Republic of China
After graduating from the University of Neuchâtel, Ambassador Godet started his career in a major Swiss bank before joining the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1974. He held positions at the Swiss embassies in Pretoria, Jeddah and New York.
In 1986, the Federal Council appointed him as Vice-Director of the Directorate of International Law of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs with the title of Minister and in 1989 he was promoted to the position of Deputy Director.
In 1993 he was appointed Ambassador to Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia with residence in Bangkok. Four years later he was Ambassador to Egypt and Sudan with residence in Cairo, and in 2000 he was also accredited in Eritrea.
In August 2001 he was Ambassador and Head of the Directorate of Political Affairs of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
From November 2004 to October 2008, he acted as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations Office and to the other international organizations in Geneva.
Since November 2008 he is Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, to Mongolia and to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
