European Chamber Beijing Office
Beijing Lufthansa Center, 50 Liangmaqiao Road, Office C411A
Dear Working Group Member,
The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to the next Carbon Market Working Group Meeting which will be held on Tuesday, 22nd March, 2011, 2-4pm at the European Chamber Beijing Office.
At this meeting, we will discuss the issues of Chair/Vice Chair election and the key issues the 2011/2012 European Chamber Position Paper.
The updated tentative agenda is as follows:
1. Chair/Vice Chair election
2. Position Paper: key issues to focus
3. Debrief on Meeting with CBEX
4. Other Chamber news: Carbon Market Working Group Annual Report
As you may know, the Carbon Market Working Chair and Vice Chairs play a crucial role in driving the Working Group which includes a leadership role in the drafting of the Position Paper, communicating key messages to the Chinese and European Government, and steering the Working Group meetings. The desired characteristics of a Chair and Vice Chair are a senior industry representative with relevant industry expertise and government contacts that has the time and willingness to support the group. Previous participation in the Working Group is also highly valued (a general job description is attached).
Currently, we have Ms. Madeleine Rawlins (Camco) as our Chair, Ms. Stephanie Kwan (Sindicatum) and Mr. Renato Roldao (Ecoprogresso) as Vice Chairs.
Nomination of suitable candidates is highly encouraged. If you are interested in these positions, please send your bio and a letter of motivation to Ms. Ziting Zhang at ztzhang@euccc.com.cn by March 18th, 2011, COB.
In addition, we will also begin our discussions on the Position Paper for 2011/12.
The Position Paper is the Chamber’s key lobbying document and is widely recognized by the Chinese Government, European Commission, and the media as the authoritative voice of EU business in China.
The paper itself is used extensively for policy considerations, bilateral discussions, cooperation projects and background information for the media and nearly all of the Carbon Market Working Groups activities in the following year. The value and importance of a well written and well represented Carbon Market Position Paper can not be overstated.
Ahead of this meeting, we ask that all members review last year’s paper internally and identify in their company what the key issues are for this year. Keeping with the same structure as last year, individual member companies are requested to come to this meeting with a clear recommendation that the group should consider.
Members are also strongly encouraged to suggest any recommendations ahead of this meeting, particularly if they can not attend in person to ztzhang@euccc.com.cn
Please find attached the Position Paper 2010/11, and the Roles and Responsibilities of Chair/Vice Chair.
