Dear Electronics Forum Member Forum,
The European Commission has launched a consultation on the green paper on a ‘Common Strategic Framework for EU research and innovation funding’, with a deadline 20 May 2011. Input is sought from all stakeholders, in particular interested individuals, companies, research institutes and citizens. Member states, the Parliament and other countries are invited to promote debate on the paper.
Innovation is a major aspect of the paper. China’s rising living standards and growing capabilities open new markets for European products and services and create new opportunities for collaboration. A stronger involvement of third countries in the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP) would offer opportunities to capture the benefits of knowledge produced outside the EU.
The main question concerning international cooperation is ‘How should international cooperation with non-EU countries be supported e.g. in terms of priority areas of strategic interest, instruments, reciprocity or cooperation with Member States?’. In addition to this, the European Research Council, mobility of researchers, the Marie Curie schemes which offer training, transfer of knowledge, and innovative skills, come into the spotlight as do intellectual property rules.
To know more about the green paper and its objectives as well as possible benefits for EU companies in China, we are pleased to invite Mr . Philippe Vialatte (Counsellor for S&T) from the Science, Technology and Environment Section, EU Delegation to China to present the following:
