European Chamber Shanghai Office (Unit 2204, Shui On Plaza, 333 Huai Hai Zhong Road, Shanghai 200021)
Dear Working Group Member,
The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to the next Environment Working Group Meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, 29 March 2011, 9:00am-10:30am at the European Chamber Shanghai Office.
At this meeting, we are delighted to welcome Ms. Tang Wei from the International Cooperation Division of the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau (SEPB). Ms. Wei will give a presentation on relevant Shanghai environmental items of the 12th 5-Year Plan and the 3-Year SEPB Action Plan.
Draft Agenda:
• Presentation by Ms. Tang Wei, International Cooperation Division, SEPB
• Discussion about European Chamber Position Paper’s key recommendations for 2011-2012
• Working Group Chair and Vice-Chair elections
At this meeting, we will discuss the Chair/Vice-Chair elections and key issues of the 2011/2012 European Chamber Position Paper.
As you may know, the Environment Working Group Chair and Vice-Chair play a crucial role in driving the Working Group, which include a leadership role in the drafting of the Position Paper, communicating key messages to the Chinese and European governments and steering the Working Group meetings. The desired characteristics of a Chair and Vice-Chair are a senior industry representative with relevant industry expertise and government contacts that has the time and willingness to support the Working Group. Previous participation in the Working Group is also highly valued. Currently, we have Mr. Frederik Cornu (Bureau Veritas) as our Chair and Mr. Wilson Bin Fan (AkzoNobel) as Vice-Chair. Nomination of suitable candidates is highly encouraged. If you are interested in these positions, please send your biography and a letter of motivation to Mr. Tim Werkhoven at twerkhoven@euccc.com.cn.
In addition, we will also begin our discussions on the Position Paper for 2011/12. The Position Paper is the Chamber’s key lobbying document and is widely recognised by the Chinese Government, European Commission and the media as the authoritative voice of EU business in China. The paper itself is used extensively for policy considerations, bilateral discussions, cooperation projects and background information for the media and nearly all of the Energy Working Groups activities in the following year. The value and importance of a well-written and well-represented Energy Position Paper cannot be overstated. Ahead of this meeting, we ask that all members review last year’s paper internally and identify in their company what the key issues are for this year. Keeping with the same structure as last year, individual member companies are requested to come to this meeting with a clear recommendation that the Working Group should consider. Members are also strongly encouraged to suggest any recommendations.
To attend this meeting, please register with Bettina Buck at bbuck@euccc.com.cn.
