Over the past year in China we've seen significant changes in the costs of manufacturing in China. General Chinese inflation, wage increases, RMB appreciation, energy prices, and material costs are all conspiring to 'move the goalposts' of owning a factory here. Add to these, Government policies designed to redistribute wealth, through taxation and regulation on industry, and customers unwilling to accept higher prices, has generated the 'perfect storm' for margin pressure.
At this meeting we'll be investigating what we can expect to happen in macro and micro economics that will further damage our profitability in China, and what else is likely to effect our cost base here.
We'll look at ways to mitigate some of these issues and will discuss how individual FMA members are combating spiralling costs.
We'll welcome those involved in manufacturing and sourcing in China to discuss their strategies and whether China remains the best place to be doing business or whether other low cost economies are gaining an advantage making a foreign owned business untenable in China.
