Tuesday, 10 May 10:30am-12:00pm
European Chamber Shanghai Office (Unit 2204, Shui On Plaza, 333 Huai Hai Zhong Road, Shanghai 200021)
Dear Member,
The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to our next Round Table discussion concerning Corporate Governance and Compliance on Tuesday, 10 May 2011, 10:30am-12:00pm at the European Chamber Shanghai Office. Please register with my colleague Ms. Bettina Buck at bbuck@europeanchamber.com.cn.
We are very honoured that Ms. Aili Zhao, Regional Compliance Officer, Siemens Ltd. China is willing and able to present to us how Siemens deals with the issues of our concern. During the meeting, Ms. Zhao will present Siemens’ model and best practices and its approach of the issue globally and tailored to its operations in China. This will be followed by a discussion and questions & answers and conclude further points of attention.
Objective
The objective of the European Chamber Round Table series is to exchange best practices in order to help dealing with issues surrounding corporate governance and compliance. At our last meeting, we agreed that compliance and governance cut across many different sectors and that it concerns all aspects of doing business in China. Therefore, especially practical guidance for companies is needed.
The Round Table attendees have ranked their most important questions as follows:
1. My company wants to acquire a Chinese business. What do we need to expect from their corporate policies and how do we deal with ethical problems in the target companies?
2. I don’t know how to make my company compliant with Chinese local legal requirements (competition law, environmental standards, labour safety).
3. I don’t know how to make my company compliant to FCPA or UK bribery act rules. How to become best in class about ethical behaviour?
4. I have high corporate standards, but other companies don’t follow the same rules! How to compete with them successfully?
5. I don’t know how to check the ethical behaviour of my Chinese business partner.
The European Chamber has partnered with the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS)/Euro-China Centre for Leadership and Responsibility (ECCLAR). Personally involved is the Director of ECCLAR and Professor of Management Practice, Dr. Mike Thompson.
The Round Table sessions are held under the Chatham House Rule:
“When a meeting or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s) nor that of any other participant may be revealed.”
