The Interim Measures for Social Insurance System Coverage of Foreigners Working within the Territory of China (MOHRSS [2011] Decree No.16) (“Interim Measures”) have been formally promulgated by MOHRSS on 6th September 2011 and will be effective as of 15th October 2011.
According to these regulations, all foreigners working in China, either with a local labor contract or being seconded by the offshore head office, shall participate in all five types of social insurance schemes in China, including:
• Pension
• Medical insurance
• Work-related injury insurance
• Maternity Insurance
• Unemployment Insurance.
This is a fundamental change in practice, and will lead to cost increases for all companies employing foreigners in China.
Mr. Xu Yanjun will brief the recent development regarding the participation in social insurance by foreigners employed in China and answer questions (submitted in advance only) at the event.
