Programme
“Defending Competitiveness”- study presented by Dr. Christian Neuner, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants (biography Dr. Neuner). The paradigm of China as low-cost country is changing, as experienced by many manufacturers in China and documented in statistics as well as in the media discussion. Eight key cost factors (including wage rates, raw material, transportation, energy, etc.) have been reviewed for the underlying logic of their increase and the resulting future impact on the cost structure of China’s manufactures and thus China’s position as an exporting nation and a premier sourcing option for international companies. The conducted study analysed the reasons for increases in costs, the consequences for China, and the possible strategies that companies can employ to react to the paradigm shift.
“Operational Excellence in Supplier Costs Control” – approach presented by Dr. Thomas Ender, SILU Production Engineering Services (biography Dr. Ender). Supply Chains within China face today the challenge of increasing costs in materials, manufacturing and logistics. The design of cost efficient supply chains on a strategic level and retaining cost advantages on an operative level are key success factors for today’s manufacturing companies. Especially export activities – local for global – are strongly influenced by competitive changes in their supply chains. The relevance of this topic touches decision makers today, and gains importance for tomorrow. Dr. Ender will give a picture about potentials in supplier costs control by introducing 2 theses to the audience. First, local design and local mass markets determine MNC’s competitiveness in the future. Second, Operational Excellence in SCM is one of the major leverages for tomorrow’s competitiveness.
