Zhangjiagang (in Chinese: 张家港) literally means ‘Zhang Family Harbor’. It is a new city of more than 1 million inhabitants approx. 2 hours driving to the North East of Shanghai in the Jiangsu province. The city lies on the Yangtze river and has a fully developed seaport. Zhangjiagang is known for being cleaner than most cities in China, and it certainly lives up to its reputation as a quiet and orderly city. As with all major cities in China the administration is facing rapidly increasing amounts of waste from its ever wealthier citizen. To cope with this waste mountain the city administration launched a BOOT-project for the construction and operation of a waste-to-energy plant. The contract was awarded to the waste management branch of the Golden State Group, Joint Venture Partner of Waterleau.
Waterleau was awarded the contract for the engineering of the furnace and boiler and for the supply of certain key components, including the feeding and combustion grates.
