The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is delighted to invite you to an informative afternoon seminar with tax and legal experts on the latest trends in China’s tax policies and their anticipated impacts on business.
The seminar will be held in Beijing on 23rd April at the Wanda Sofitel Hoteol.
Tax expert Tracy Zhang from KPMG and real estate expert Joel Rothstein from the law firm of Paul Hastings LLP will examine the most recent developments involving: (i) the introduction of a new value added tax (VAT) regime; and (ii) the roll-out of property tax and other measures and policies targeting the property industry.
Seminar Content:
VAT Reforms
A VAT pilot scheme was initially launched in Shanghai on January 1, 2012 to replace Business Tax with a VAT in the transportation sector and in certain “modern services industries”. It is due to be rolled out to Beijing, Tianjin and Chongqing on July 1, 2012, and then progressively across mainland China. The seminar will examine the VAT reforms and include a discussion of:
• How the VAT reform pilot program operates
• What actions businesses need to take to deal with the reforms
• What are the opportunities the reforms present for businesses
• What are the major risk areas or issues that businesses need to be aware of
• What is the timing of the VAT reforms spreading across China
Property Sector Reforms
China’s property sector has been integral to the performance and growth of the general economy of China. In an attempt to cool an overheated market, China has turned, among other things, to tax policies in an attempt to slow speculation. The property tax and other recent policies of the government targeting the property sector will be assessed and recommendations will be made for market participants who need to navigate through these policies to complete transactions.
The seminar will include a Q&A segment, where audience members get the opportunity to have their questions answered.
