Dear Legal & Competition Working Group member,
The Government Affairs forum invites the members of the Legal & Competition Working Group to their next meeting, which will take place on Wednesday 25 July, 9:00-10:30.
At this meeting we will have the honour to welcome Professor Sheng Hong, who will give a presentation on The Origins and Effects of Administrative Monopolies in China. Professor Sheng is Executive Director and Co-founder of Unirule Institute of Economics (天则经济研究所), China’s first independent and private think-tank, and Professor of Economics at Shandong University. Professor Sheng received his Ph.D. in economics from China Academy of Social Sciences and has been a guest scholar at the University of Chicago.
Administrative monopolies are monopolistic powers that are granted through regulations, statutes, or other administrative measures, rather than through laws. Professor Sheng will outline the various types of administrative monopolies that exist in China, their origin and legal status, and how these monopolies are sustained by stakeholder lobbying. His presentation is based on the recent Unirule report “The Causes, Behaviors, and Termination of Administrative Monopoly in China.”
If you wish to take part in this meeting, please register with Mr. Fredrik Uddenfeldt at fuddenfeldt@europeanchamber.com.cn before 12:00 on Tuesday 24 July.
