The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is pleased to invite you to the afternoon seminar on Analysing Pollution in Beijing: Dark Clouds and Murky Water, with Calvin Quek, Head of Sustainable Finance at Greenpeace East Asia, who will introduce their latest report on Heavy Metal Concentration of PM 2.5 in Beijing.
Calvin Quek will be joining a panel discussion with Ms. Stephanie Kwan, Carbon Market Working Group Chair, Ms. Sandra Retzer, Chair of the Smart Grid Working Group and Mr. Simon Spooner, Water Working Group Chair to analyse the migration of heavy metal pollutants from source to exposure, the effect that policies and regulations have to reduce this pollution, and the recommendations and industry solutions that could alleviate this pollution.
Calvin Quek will be presenting the results of monitoring nine individuals PM2.5 exposure in the Beijing area from December 3, 2012 to January 18, 2013, when Beijing experienced the most severe air pollution levels since PM2.5 monitoring data became first available. This research focuses on the heavy metal contamination of PM2.5 and the relevant individual exposure risk. The report traces the concentration levels of three major pollutants, and discusses the potential long-term effects that they will have on people.
He will also update attendees on the latest research conducted by Greenpeace on water and carbon emissions impact.
