Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang have been in power for a year now. What do the policy directions of their leadership mean for the EU, and how does the 'strategic relationship' started ten years ago under Wen Jiabao now stand? European companies have an alliance with both the Chinese government and other international enterprises in trying to get Chinese consumers to spend more. But how do they conquer the domestic markets of China, and what role will Shanghai play in that story, as the service and finance sector centre of the country in its journey to middle income status by 2020. This talk will address both the challenges the EU faces in dealing with China during this economic transition, but also its challenges within itself in forging consensus amongst member states on how best to engage with China.
The European Chamber Shanghai is delighted to welcome Dr. Kerry Brown, Executive Director of the China Studies Centre, and Professor of Chinese Politics at the University of Sydney, to speak about the current political and economic developments and the implactions for business in China.
