The European Chamber R&D Forum is delighted to offer a seminar on cooperation between European companies and Universities in China.
With China’s labour market getting more and more competitive, companies are increasingly looking into cooperation with universities. Setting up and develop successful R&D cooperation projects with universities and the academic world has become a standard practice for companies all over the world. It ensure strong rooting of the R&D with a specific market, takes advantage of different scientific ideas, establish a network of potential future employees and usually enjoys strong support from the government and local authorities. However and despite of the importance of the Chinese market, companies have to overcome significant challenges in order to successfully develop these kind of partnerships in China, and especially in Shanghai.
Our speakers will present the overall status and trends of the current R&D cooperation between European companies and China, and focus on concrete stories and presentation of successful R&D cooperation between multinational companies and Shanghai Universities.

Speakers
Dr. Mason Wang
Mason was trained as a Biochemical Engineer, and was awarded a PhD degree by East China University of Science & Technology at Shanghai in 1998. He started his career in Unilever at Apr of 1999 as a as a scientist in natural products research in Unilever R&D Shanghai. In 2005, he was appointed as the Head of Unilever Foods & Health Research Institute in Shanghai, leading Unilever tea and functional foods research in China. In Oct 2007, Mason became the Director of Research, Unilever China, leading a team of about 100 research professionals for functional material science research, including naturals, chemistry and new materials. From May 1st of 2011, Mason is the Unilever Open Innovation Director for North Asia, aiming to build more Win-Win partnerships with North Asia-based enterprises, research institutes, universities and individuals.
Ms. Ulrike Tagscherer
Dr. Ulrike Tagscherer studied geography, political sciences and modern Chinese at Heidelberg University, and received her doctoral degree in 1999. She joined Fraunhofer Headquarters in 2000 as Manager Asia and became Director International Business Development Asia in 2004. In 2008 she entered the Institute of Policy and Management of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS IPM) as an Integrated Expert for strengthening the cooperation between Fraunhofer ISI and CAS IPM and jointly conducting research projects. She joined the newly established Joint Center for Innovation Research (CAS IPM and Fraunhofer ISI) in China in 2013 on behalf of Fraunhofer ISI. Her research focus lies on national systems of innovation, regional and sectoral systems of innovation, S&T and innovation policy, industry-science linkages, and R&D activities of multinational companies in China.
Mr. Floryan De Campo
Floryan De Campo is the head of E2P2L - Eco-Efficient Products and Processes Laboratory which is an international joint lab dedicated to eco-innovation and sustainable chemistry. This joint lab regroups 6 partners, CNRS, Solvay, ENS Lyon, Lille University, ECNU and Fudan University where researchers from the partners focus on developing new environmentally benign catalytic systems. Floryan De Campo has more than 13 years’ experience in the field of organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry and catalysis within the research and innovation function of Solvay. He is the inventor of more than 35 patents, has occupied various positions in England, US and China and contributed to the development of several industrial processes.
